An Alliteration Activity

I think we need a new game to get some life back into this place. I propose that we play the Alliteration Game.

Alliteration is when every, or nearly every word in a sentence begins with the same letter of the alphabet. Occasionally the same sound, as in "f" and "ph" will work, but it is generally the same first letter.

The object of the game is to create a(more than one is allowed) sentence and to alliterate as many of the words as possible (no more than 15 alliterated words per sentance). Example: "An angry alligator ate an apple." The sentences will often wind up silly, but they should be actual sentences and make sense, to a point. No cobbled together, "Frankenstine Phrases" allowed.

Your challenge, should you accept it is to create alliterated phrases. You will be awarded a point for every alliterated word, and five bonus points if you can actually carry on something of a conversation, as in the "Quotes Game". Howesver, due to a flood of "story statements" your entry can't have more than 15 alliterated word per sentance, though you may use as many sentances as is nessisary.

Each player must post their score at the begining or end of each post. I will tally the scores and add in the bonus points on a weekly basis to find the week's King or Queen, and will try to post each week's scores as regularly as possable (the goal is every Saturday night or Sunday). At that same time, I will announce the King/Queen of Alliteration for the week.

Each Sunday begins a new week and each player must start fresh in their quest of the crown. Since I'm starting mid week, I'll hold off the scoring till Sunday after next, the date being Sunday, Feb. 15th. So the first crowning will be for the week of Sun. Feb 7th-Sat. Feb. 14th (plus a couple days).

Hopefully that will generate enough competition for this to take off for a while.

Are we ready? Let's alliterate!

Frankly, these fearsomely flowing phrases are fascinating, fanciful, fun, and, furthermore, frightening. Fantastic!

(10, if "phrases" counts, which I think it does)

To be totally truthful, I'm terribly terrified of the tremendous tongue tying talent of the TST troop and am tempted to torment those reading by trying to tattle on, but the tediousness of tying all this together is too tiring.

Well, wise one, when wilful wits pit mind and word, when wordsmiths wreak their wicked work, we waver not, til with warm whimsy, we on Wednesday, whine with wretched wail, "Why, when we might whale-hunt or witch-hunt or with Wordsworth, worship wind & willows in written word, would we want to word-hunt for W-words?

Sir Sammy suggests a summons of certain TST socialites in order to surmise whether certain select short story alliterations should be acceptable supplements to single sentence structure alliterations already being offered by sensational TST socialites; should said thread starter deem such short stories to seem acceptable, Sir and Mrs. Sammy suggest short stories should be separated from single sentence structure scores.

Dodger, I counted 39.

Sammy, I counted 35, and I will consider your suggestion and perhaps I should offer more catagories. I will think on this more and edit the first post accordingly.

I have decided to limit the number of words per entry to keep down the long "story statements". If you like posting "story statements", I would be willing to start a second, seperate game. The limit will now be ten alliterated words(unless someone has a better suggestion) per entry. Is this satisfactory to all?

Also, just a friendly reminder, that you have untill I get on Saturday night to up your scores.

The Standings:
PB: 33 points + 5 x 4 = 20 bonus points = 53 total
ARCH: 41 points + 5 x 3 = 15 bonus points = 55 total
DODGER: 69 points + 5 x 3 = 15 bonus points = 84 total
LADYG: 10 points + 5 bonus points = 15 total
SAMMY: 63 points + 5 x 2 = 10 bonus points = 73 total

This week's winner is...
Dodger!!!

We will now begin a new week of word wrestling!

I am ... a winner? I AM A WINNER!!!! Wow, this really makes my day! I now feel empowered and amazing, which is good because I have to perform in about an hour ... Shocked Dodger does not care particularly for performance. In fact, Dodger is more than a little concerned ....

Perhaps you could limit the number of words to 10 or 15 per sentence , but allow multiple sentences, all alliterated to a single letter per post. That way, the statements would be easier to follow, but would still allow clever use of adverbs and adjectives. I think 10 words per sentence would be a rather small limit. After all, the sentence previous to this one was ten words, and this one is even longer. Ten words is really a rather short sentence.

Admittedly, alliteration accentuates anti-alacrity abounding amongst our absolutely astute assemblage.

What wastrels will work wantonly,
when writers weave words wittily!
Who warrants Wednesday woes when we
write wonders woven winsomely?
Wake warlike, watchful, wisely willing,
Weak, wan, weirdness wrestle ... winning.
Why weep with weary wheezings waning?
Whoopee! We waltz! Wide wellsprings wading!

Weather-worn,
Parm Smile

Have fun counting Very Happy
