You got most of it, and I just took care of the rest.
No PB I didn't spam, I just moved stuff around to all different forums. |

Ah. I probably missed it because I don't go into the actual forums very often any more.
I use the "Today's Active Topics" button and that shows me everything that's been posted in or started without searching through the forums. |

Six and a half weeks of school left.
Ever since I decided I'm not coming back next year, (because of the little one . . . I WILL NOT put a child of mine in day care) I have been incredibly antsy to be done. There's nothing like knowing something is the end and a new beginning to make you impatient to be done and move on! *sigh* |

Willow--I definitely sympathize with your eagerness to be finished with school...but don't wish the weeks by too quickly, please. Our semester is looking freakishly short from my perspective, and I have three papers to write!
That said, I do like the rhythm of the school year--the sudden expansiveness of that week in May or June or whenever when suddenly you have "nothing" to do until the fall. (That's probably a big part of the reason I'm
still
in school.) |

Well, I don't really get a break . . . though camp is in some ways a vacation . . . but ever since I've become management . . . and ever since I graduated from college, I haven't had any time between when school gets out and when camp starts. When I was in college, I had a whole month between when college let out and when camp started . . . and a few weeks after camp before school. It is not that way as a teacher. Of course, most people don't have the luxury of a summer break from work anyway, so I shouldn't complain about that . . . but it was really nice.
I am dreading the last couple weeks of school just as much as I am excited to be done, because completely cleaning out my classroom is going to be a pain in the neck. I have to sort through everything and decide what is mine and I should/want to take with me, and what I have to leave . . . not to mention what I have at home that really belongs to the school. *sigh* |

Awesome! Pity Soj hasn't been able to finalize things with his girl yet, it would be absolutely hilarious if we all became parents at about the same time. |

Hi Arch! I haven't seen you here in a while! It's good to see you!
You missed my April Fool's prank. Though you probably wouldn't have noticed, since if I recall correctly you just use the "Recent Active Topics" forum. |

Yes Arch, I am pregnant. My wife is at any rate.
Yeah, that would be cool... we could have TST, The Next Generation! |

So I guess, it should be my turn with an announcement. Sir Sammy and I put an offer down on a house Friday and should hear back by the end of today.
I wish I had the same kind of announcement that you guys have. I am working through some health issues at the moment, so it can't happen for a while. I know God has it all planned out, but it feels like I won't ever be able to have a baby. But God has given me the tools I need to get healthy. I am trying to use them wisely and let Him deal with the rest, but it's hard.
Anyway, I am really happy for you guys! It is so exciting! Children are such a blessing. |

Hugs and congrats all round!
Sammy--hooray for the house! And I'll be keeping you and your health in my prayers. I know you know this, but God's timing is different than ours. (A related example: my mother was told for ten years that she'd never have children...she has three.)
The next generation of TST...what a thought.
On a completely different note: only forty pages of writing stands between me and the end of the semester. Forty pages and one week...I can do this. I think.
How are the rest of you doing? |

I don't know the ages of all the people are who participate here, but I would guess that most of them are younger than I am. I think that it's great that a forum has a mixture of ages. The other Lewis site I visit has had people participate ranging from age ten to over sixty. It would work here just as well to have different generations conversing together. I am over fifty, and although my views are a bit old fashioned, I have enjoyed visiting with those who are much younger. I think parents could feel much safer if their children are posting here than on other less secure forums and chat rooms. So it's a good idea to recommend this site even to the very young. If they like the Narnia books they will find that this is the friendliest Lewis site on the internet. |

Wow, glad to hear it, Solo. I just came by, and the sound of crickets chirpting here is deafening. TST seems to have up and died, and I'm partly to fault for not coming here often. Let's clean out the cobwebs and get started on something. |

I post here once in a while, trying to think of something to talk about without repeating myself too much. It's rainy today so I can't do too much outside. A disappointment for the beginning of June? Perhaps if you wanted to do something outdoors, but then you can catch up on your reading. |

Good to have you around again, Cockleburr! (And all the rest, too, of course.) You'd think now that I'm on summer break from school I'd have more time to post, but the reverse seems to be happening...maybe it's just that my summer projects inspire less procrastination than my school paper.s

Hi LadyG. It's funny how summer projects can be more inspiring than school work! I found that so true when I was at school!
Sir Sammy and I just celebrated our 3rd anniversary yesterday. We went away for two days this week, and hopefully the weather will hold out for us to go camping this weekend. It was very nice and relaxing.
We are also looking at another house that has more potential than the one we had put an offer on. That other house, we found out, would have cost too much in the long run because no permits where taken out on it since it was built, and it would have been too much of a headache to do anything to the house. It was good that God brought us out of that situation, so He can bring us something better!
I'm glad to see folks coming around again! |

Hello all!
So...I must sheepishly tuck my tail (however much of a tail that a sheep-like person could have) between my legs and smile like a dork...cause that's what I feel like for daud'ling off for say what....a year give or take? Wow...that's sad. I cannot believe that I neglected this site for so long!
But I figure that it's about time I return since it's practically 6 months away from VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER!!!! GAH! I need to immerse myself once again into the world of Lewis fans, since none close to me care about Narnia at all (even the significant other...which makes my inner child want to grab a giant hering and slug him upside the side with it...le sigh).
Anyone else excited that the trailer is likely to appear in a little under two weeks? Anyone? |

I hope the movie's trailer will be online. I have memories of reading the book for the first time in the 1970's and how it really hooked me on the Narnian sea voyage. And of course there was a retired star with my user name living on a magical island. I was on a vacation in northern Michigan and read the book at night after seeing some enchanted Great Lakes scenes that day. The ending was the most intriguing when crew of the Dawn Treader reached the end of the eastern seas. It was the most compelling of all the seven books, I thought. Anyone else read Narnia books in settings like those in the stories? |

Sir Sammy and I just finished reading The Voyage together, just tonight. We went up in the woods to explore and have a bbq, and while waiting for dinner to cook, I read the last three chapters. It was a great setting, and I am even more excited to see the movie! But I guess I will have to be content with getting to see the trailer , then wait on pins and needles for the movie. And, keep my rambling about the movie down to a dull roar, Sir Sammy isn't as crazy about it as I am, though he has fond memories of his dad reading them aloud to the family.
Ramandu, I'm sure it will make it's way online sometime after it is in the theatre. Sometimes it's online before it's shown on the big screen. I will definitely be looking out for it and post a link to it, unless someone else beats me to it. |

I was hoping for so much better than the last movie version of
Prince Caspian
, which wasn't a very good adaptation of the book. I liked the first movie LWW (especially the actors), but although they made another appearance, the second movie didn't preserve much of Lewis' original plot. Well, maybe it will be better this time. Looking at photographs of the
Dawn Treader
ship that was constructed a few months ago, it seems that there will be some regard for authenticity. Let's hope they will be faithful to Lewis in the scripts as well. |

I was reading around, and found that Walden said that the trailer will be with the Toy Story 2 movie.
Anyone planning on seeing that? If you do, I'd love to know what you think!
OOPS! Edited to say Toy Story

When I was first introduced to Narnia, I was in 3rd grade and my teacher was reading them to our class. All four of us would then go to recess with the stories dancing in our heads. Our school shared a fence with a really big park and so we would just go out and roam the park...make trees forts and castles...and play out Narnia. It was fabulous! I will never forget those days. When we first heard VDT, I remember us pretending the grass was water and the trees were part of the ship. Ah yes...such wonderful memories!
I am so excited to see this trailer! SO excited!

My first and third grade teacher (it was the same teacher for both grades) read to us
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
,
The Horse and His Boy
, and
The Silver Chair
. She had a talent for acting and storytelling, which made the stories a pleasure to listen to. This was back in the 1960's when there wasn't much technology and teachers had to create their own theatrical effects. I grew up in a much simpler, unsophisticated world than we live in today, but listening to a good story was fascinating for children who loved the magical world of C.S. Lewis. |

Oh, how fun! We used to get stories read aloud to us in school quite often, as well as at home--I seem to recall the Narnia books featuring prominently in both locations. VoDT is a lot of fun because of all the different
places
we as readers get to visit--I'll be interested to see what the movie will do with some of the sheer locational beauty (and other attributes) implied in the book.
I always love TST, but I love it even more when we're all about! |

Those sound like lovely memories! My teacher wasn't theatrical when she read them, however she did have a very expressive high, lilting voice that fit a child's book series quite well I had wished very much that my parents had been into the Chronicles, but they rather traditional Christians and they felt that reading stories about witches, unicorns, magic spells...pretty much anything with fantasy...had no place in the minds of children. They really didn't get it. Ah well...
I agree Lady G! VDT is my favorite for the very reason that it's just so adventurous inside an adventurous setting....so many places and mysteries to be solved The mood of VDT...the atmosphere so to speak...is always so distinct in my mind from the other books. HHB, VDT and SC have a very 'feeling' while reading them then the others...at for me anyways. I'm VERY excited to see the visual feast that I'm hoping for with VDT...especially considering that it's in 3D (although 3D movies usually make me feel nauseous). |

I have just seen an oriole at my nectar feeder after I thought they had left the area. The bird that's visiting is a male like the one pictured below. I will keep my feeder out as long as I see that it is still coming (perhaps once or twice a day). Anyone else here have a hobby of feeding/watching birds?

Oh, how beautiful! I remember one summer we had an oriole in our yard for a bit. My dad is the birdwatcher in our family, but I do enjoy looking for them at the feeder. Unfortunately, now that I live on my own, I don't have a good place to hang a feeder. Hopefully that will change sometime, and I'll be able to keep better track of the birds in the area.
Thanks for sharing the lovely picture! |

I would love to be able to feed birds, but we haven't found anyplace to put a bird feeder or house where the cats won't get them.
My mother-in-law has a few feeders and houses, so I can go over there and enjoy them. She mainly has finches and hummingbirds, one of them actually perches on the feeder as it sips! I've never seen any do that before, and always thought they couldn't rest (don't ask me what they would do when they sleep, but whatever) |

Unless one has a large property it's rather difficult to feed wild birds and have cat and dogs on the premises too. Cats prey on birds and dogs will often frighten them away. That' s why I feed only birds and have no pets. I would much rather see birds flying free in nature than in cages so I don't have them as pets but love them just as much in the wild. The area in which I live is almost entirely built up and there only a few shrubs and large trees, but in spite of this I feed the birds anyway. One thing is fortunate-- there are woods and natural areas within three or four miles so I don't have to go very far for better birding. If you have these refuges near your home I recommend seeking them out if you love watching birds as I do. You can sometimes even find them in areas that have been urbanized. |

DoE - I agree with you about the 'feeling' from all three of those same books! I think the VDT and HHB are my favorite of the series for that very reason.
Arch - Thank you! Life has been so busy and I've done a lot of re-prioritizing in the past year and it just hasn't allowed me to be here. I intentionally left TORC for a season and although I didn't intentionally leave here it just happened to follow suit.
Gosh...a year and a half is a long time to recap - I don't even know where to start!
I moved in with a new roommate in December...that's going mostly well, but in the end I think I'd rather live by myself. The first time I lived alone I hated it, but I'm older now and would prefer it. Maybe I'm just getting crotchety.
I turned 25...woohoo? I can rent a car now, I suppose.
I got to help with my church's VBS for the first time last summer (and consequently, this summer as well). I guess that might not seem like such a big deal, but it is for me. I've always wanted to help out with it, but my church does it in the evening and up until a couple of years ago I was working nights. But no more - yay!
Hmmm...someone of interest has made his way onto the scene. We've become very good friends over the past several months and well, I'm hoping the progression continues.
He is moving to Montana in the fall for school so if nothing happens before then, it's okay.
Everything with the teens is going well! Last summer we were sort of kicked out of our youth center because it needed to be brought up to commercial code (previously it was coded residentially because it used to be the parsonage). We've spent the past year kind of homeless and floating from location to location, but just this past Wednesday we officially moved back in!
And that's all I have right now.
Back on topic, I don't know anything about birds really, but my grandparents always had various sorts of feeders and we loved watching them flitter about. Someday I'd love to have a setup similar to what they had. |

Glad to hear that you are doing well, Aravis. I left this board too for while, but now I'm back quite regularly. I haven't found anything on the Internet quite as friendly as this place. |

Good for you Ara! I'm very happy to hear that life is treating you well! I'm glad that a good number of you are coming back at the same time I am...it's great to see you all again
I totally agree, Ramandu! This place has such a warm and cozy feel...I don't think I'd be happy anywhere else. Everyone is very dear to me now and I hope that TST starts booming again. Discussion amongst such good company is always something I look forward too. |

Is it just me---or does everyone always show up when I leave?
Welcome back everyone!!!
I'll be lurking about now. I finished this year of school! It will be my last. The school won't accept my past credits because I was homeschooled so many years. Apparently my work isn't "accredited."
Anyways, I'll have to get my GED this summer. I'm a bit mad, because of all the frustration the school gave me...especially when I wanted to get my diploma so badly. At the same time, I'm really happy, because now the plan is to attend a Community College this fall.
I'm not getting a lot of support, because people say I'm wasting my life away by not getting my diploma. My other option is to go to school for another three years. I can go to college for two and get a degree! It seems more practical to just move on.
I start my classes next week
You guys are right! No matter where I go on the internet, I always find my way back here |

Hope you can complete your education, Edmund. At the time I was in elementary and high school home schooling was unheard of. My education was very traditional-- I attended and graduated from a Christian elementary and high school, and received my B. A. in English from a small Christian college. Of course most liberal arts colleges were four years back then, depending on the completion of your credits.
Some time ago I recommended a book on how the Chronicles of Narnia should be read. It was on the discussion board of another C. S. Lewis website (Into the Wardrobe), but I would like to pass it on here. The book,
Reading with the Heart: The Way into Narnia
, was written by one of my former professors at Hope College, Peter J. Schakel. I can't recommend it highly enough if you love C. S. Lewis and want a great guide to Narnia. The complete text of the book is free online (you don't even have to buy it).
Here is the link:
http://hope.edu/academic/english/schakel/readingwiththeheart/
He is a great C. S. Lewis scholar. Back in the 1970's I took his Lewis course, which was quite similar to the book. This study gives you something to think about how the mythology of the Narnia books was created and the way we can regard them as unique stories. I thought this was interesting since the course and the book (which was written later) were part of my education. They were very meaningful to me.

You are very welcome samhobbit. I bought the book long before I owned a computer, but I was pleased to find it online as well. I think there's a revised edition now, too. The book was first published in 1979-- two years after I graduated from college. |

Hi Solo! nice to see you around! We really do have too many crickets!
you could sick a cat on them. Very fun for the cats, I know mine would drive me nuts with her chattering at it, then my other one, the huntress would catch it.
Hope you had a good 4TH!
Sir Sammy and I went to the lake to watch the fireworks they do every year. We camped up on the ridge and watched them from above! It was really nice, just the two of us. I was a bit surprised at all the boats, their running lights all looked like the embers in a good cooking fire, they were so thick! Oh well, it was fun! |

Happy belated Fourth, to those for whom it matters!
We attempted to watch fireworks at a beach as well (up on the Wisconsin shore of Lake Michigan, where we were vacationing), but the ones we'd planned to see were mostly hidden by an unexpected ridge. We did see some pretty cool ones in the other direction, and at some moments we could see five separate little tiny bursts of fireworks from all the little towns on the shore. That was pretty cool.
Fourth of July always seems to suggest that summer is quickly waning, however... (maybe I'm just being a little morbid).
And--let's drive out those crickets, shall we? |

*Catches the cricket in a bottle, and puts it outside.*
Let's see if that works.
We also have a ledge that some people climb up to watch the fireworks here in my town. Should there be a comma in that sentence? Supposedly we can see them from my house, however, I was at work, and could not see the fireworks. But I did get paid double. So it kinda evened out.
Summer is definitely here, and not waning as far as I can see. I don't know why, but I'm not a huge fan of summer. I like the beginning and the end of summer, and autumn is my favourite season. |
