This reminds me of something...Do they do this every year, as kind of a festival? It seems to me that I saw it in a movie somewhere.
I'd love to go too, let me know if you plan it Maybe I'll actually have money... not likely though. |

Solosimpe, if anything is seriously planned for a trip to Narnia, you won't be left out! You did mention a shortage of money though--am I correct in assuming that you are a fellow college student?

Ah yes,
loans
.... I'm currently debating if I'll take out a loan and stay in college, or just drop out when my money runs out. I can't decide. I think I could get by for at least one more semester though, before I have to make a decision....

I am busily preparing our second-year high school students for their annual
trip to Great Britain. Once again, I have been passed over as a teacher to join
them. One suspects many reasons for this, but at least I will be home to enjoy
my family during the summer holidays. That, to be sure, is a blessing in itself.
When they are older and grown up, and if my health has held, I am sure there
can be travels abroad for us, if necessary.
How nice it would be to travel to fair Italia and see you!
Sigh...that shall have to wait for the far, distant future.
We can, at least, keep in touch here! |

Feel free to call me Parm...my children have pled with me:
"Don't tell people it's an abbreviation for Parmesan because you like cheese!"
So, I won't...even though I do like cheese...
and my name came from something/someone else.
not even cheese-related.
Parm is also Japanese for getting one's hair permed: Now <that> can be really
embarrassing to explain to people.

To our dear Italian friend!
I am so glad to help, but I hope I got it right.
There is a considerable different between editing English, and
translating Italian idioms into comparably idiomatic English.
That is what makes being in Japan so difficult for me: I keep forgetting how
we 'say that' in English. I have come to enjoy the nuances of expression that
Japanese has, and forget how we get across the same idea in English.
Therefore, between the two of us, I, too, need to keep up with my English.
Yesterday, I keep looking at the word 'answer' for the longest time thinking:
Is that
really
how we spell it? Silly, yes, but it was unnerving to say
the least. |

That's definitely interesting about the new pope. I haven't heard a lot about him since he became pope, but this is certainly good to hear How have you been fgiusepp?
We just got an e-mail from my mom's cousin's son in Italy, and we're translating it, so I'm getting some practice in my Italian (which is awful by the way). |

Actually, my Nonna is Italian, and was born near Firenze. It was near Christmas and actually snowed a lot that year, which I hear is unusual for the area. She was a translator, and married my Grandfather, (who was over in Italy during WWII), and moved to the US shortly after. So I am only a quarter Italian, but I'm very interested in that part of my heritage. It's interesting communicating with my cousins, because we live in completely different places. And yes, I do understand about the language difficulties! You do a good job though of making yourself understood in English~ |

Like said C .S. Lewis Narnia are a land in wich are always winter and never Christmas, " also in Italy snowed a lot that year".
I study at the Florence University and live in Firenze for 7 years, and also now I am a resercher at Florence university at the Educational Laboratory.
What are the name of your Nonna town near Florence ?????????
Now I see that you live in Vermount that look like a very nice place with mountain and nice natural landscape,
where are your town ?????
Also Narni are not so very far from Florence , so if you plane to visit Italy you can see also Narnia in Italy.

It's funny, but I never heard the name of the town...It could have actually been in Florence, but on the outskirts of the city. From what I hear, her father had to go to Florence to register her birth, but had to wait until the snow melted a little so he could get there. I wish I knew if it was another small town or not. I'll have to either ask her or my mother about that.
That's great that you are familiar with the city! I hope to go visit there some day, I will probably be able to stay with relatives if I do. Also, I would love to visit Narni If I do go!
Yes, Vermont is a very beautiful place, with the mountains and countryside around. I live in a town called Bristol, which is a small town. Actually I live on the outskirts of the town, on what used to be a farm. It's about ten minutes to the village. We are close to what is known as the presidential range of mountains. It's called that because a lot of the mountains have names of US presidents or their wives. I've been told that a lot of Vermont looks like parts of Italy. Here is a link to a picture of a mountain near here.

Sorry Dd! Didn't realize I was going off topic Can I just answer one question? The town was l'Aquila I think. (dodges MODBAT.)
I will say something to stay on topic though. If I do visit Italy, I will make it a point to go to Narni! It sounds like the prices aren't too bad, like you said, in comparison to Rome, etc. Do you get a lot of tourists there? |

I am sorry there are not more responses to your enthusiastic efforts, my friend.
In my world, my responsibilities pull me here and there, but I do want to say that
your labors of love are not unnoticed, nor unappreciated!
Keep it up good soul! |

That's so wonderful that you are reaching out to American schools! I wish I could have done something like that when I was in elementary school.
Thanks for sharing all of this fgiusepp! |

Hi i am still finding my way round these boards but i noticed this thread and was really excited as i remember once looking through a huge set of books containing the names of all the saints and there was a St Lucy of Narni! i am so glad to hear of someone from that place. do you know about St Lucy? i would love to find out more about her. |
