The Weather Thread of Dooooom!
Hey everyone, this is the new weather thread suggested by...Dodger I think it was. I think that unless you live in a cave, everyone has weather where they live, whether or not the weather is similar. Come to think of it, if you do live in a cave, you probably have weather as well. It could be a dark, dank, drippy, smelly cave with the ends of worms, and altogether not a Hobbittish place in the least. Or it could be a dry and warm cave...or a dry and cold cave... But I digress, it is very unlikely that any one of us lives in a cave, dank or otherwise. But if they do, they should tell us all about it because that would be interesting to hear about!
The weather here today is in the upper 40s, and it is raining. The trees are all getting red at the tips of their branches, and a wet cat just jumped on my lap. There is a wonderful smell of something fresh in the air outside... |

Niiiice! Well, weather. It's very moist, right at the moment, there were
supposed
to be thunderstorms all day, but we only got a couple in the morning, and now it's just nasty. I fear to venture out, for squishy would get me. Yesterday, however, was most enviable weather, unseasonably warm, and dry to boot! I expect it'll be sub-zero tomorrow though. That's Michigan weather for you. |

Dodger - As they say, "If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes."
Washington is rainy...all the time. No matter the temperature, it's rainy.
w00t.
Solo - That entire first paragraph made me about die laughing.
Just thought you should know.
Yay weather! |

Well, last night we had a pretty big thunderstorm, here in ohio. We saw tons of lightning! Kinda creepy.
We have this freind (who lives 5 minutes away from our house) Whose mom absouloutly LOVES thunderstorms! Wierd. But then, she enjoys getting sick, too... which is something else I never understood about her. |

Solo, that opening post is quite siily.
This morning looks rather drear, but I think it's the sort of drear that will clear up later in the day. At least I hope so. |

I wish the word awful still meant what it must have originally meant.
Usually we have snow about this time of year, and they call it "sugar snow," because this is the season for tapping maple trees and making maple sugar. We have something weird called, "sugar on snow," when they take freshly made (hot) maple syrup, and pour it on a cupful of snow. The syrup hardens when it cools down, and people eat it with a plain doughnut, or a pickle (to cut the sweetness).
Right now however, it is in the 40's and windy. And also...windy. Tis beautiful out though. [/rubbing it in] |

Yar. They sometimes use those little paper containers (for french fries) if it's at a festival. I bet you don't eat snowcones with pickles though.
For maple sugaring, it should be freezing at night, and above freezing during the day, so that the sap runs. The last run, they sometimes call "the frog run," because it's when the frogs are starting to come out. |

stupid Michigan weather. nice and in the 50's one day, then snowing the next. ugh.
See today, it wasn't so much that it was really cold, it was all the wind. It's so strong that I nearly was literally blown away.
ooo, maple sugar, yummm... if it's not too personal, where do you live Solo? I just ask because it sounds like a very Vermontish type thing, and I love Vermont lol. |

Yar, I am in Vermont. I love it here too.
There is an old Vermont saying that I heard for the first time the other day, and it's something like, "The wind blew so hard, and for so long, that sometime last week it stopped, and everyone fell down." |

I'm green with envy I wish I could take a walk! But it's way too cold here. It's probably like 30 degrees or something. Just yesterday I could go outside in a sweater and be perfectly comftorable...today I had to wear a winter coat. Bah! Ohio weather...oh well |

I have the same weather as Switch, it would seem.
It's been very windy the past couple of days , yesterday it was a bit warmer though...now it's pretty much just cold...
That's Michigan for you...don't lke the weather? Wait five minutes.
Keeps us on our fuzzy toes. Er, my fuzzy toes in any case...

fuzzy...
fuzzy wuzzy was a bear
fuzzy wuzzy had no hair
if fuzzy wuzzy had no hair
then fuzzy wuzzy wasn't fuzzy, was he?
Sorry, I had to do that!
The weather is still pretty cold here...and it's really dark out. *sighs* I hope tomorrow is warmer. |

I get that joke a lot.
I've never considered thirty degrees too cold to take a walk, that's actually when most of my best walks happen. The air is crisp, the clouds grey, and I alone...

For me, it depends what the weather is like aside from the temperature. Some of my best walks have been around 30 degrees as well, or 20 for that matter. But if it is 40, and the weather is damp,*shiver* I'd rather it be 30 and dry.
Ttbk is right though, it helps to be fuzzy. |

Well, I suppose 30 isn't that bad, but the wind chill probably brought it down to more like 20, which, in my opinion, 20 degrees w/ the wind blowing is just a little too cold. |

Yes... wait five minutes-- it will usually get worse
Maybe I'm just weird, but for me, perfect walking weather is around 50 degrees, after a thunderstorm.

Solo, I can never keep track if you are fuzzy or feathery . . . . or just rubbery.
I don't like wind. . . . most of the time . . . there are situations when I like it . . . like gentle breezes are wonderful. . . but the winds we have here are most emphatically not wonderful.
's walks. I've not yet experienced weather too cold to take a walk. If it's cold, just bundle up a bit more. Cloaks are really good for cold weather. You wear warm socks, a warm sweater and a coat, and the cloak over the top and -20 is not too cold! (and I'm really not exaggerating the temperature. I've taken a walk when it was -20 and enjoyed it. ) |

yay for wind!
I love the wind, one of the best kinds is when its starting to get cooler out in the beginning of fall and its windy all the time and the leaves are blowing everywhere and the wind is nice and refreshing after a hot summer. And then of course the warm wind that comes with the beginning of spring is a very welcome change from the cold winter. And there's countless other types.
Did you know Zephyr meant a west wind? Probably everyone does, but i remember the first time i found out what it meant, i was reading at the back of the North Wind and i couldn't figure out what it meant (out came the dictionary that helped me with Deja Vu ) |

I'm reading that book right now!
Well, not right this second, but it is next to my bed.
It depends, I sometimes like wind, and sometimes not. It can be a bit much if it is very windy and 10 degrees. At least for taking walks. I liked the wind yesterday though, it wasn't very cold, and it wasn't strong enough to blow my hat off. I went up into the north field, and wished I could play the bagpipes. |

But I'm ok with it, because it looks very lovely on the trees outside my window. |

The last couple days it's been really windy. I love windy.
*starts singing*
'And Windy has stoooormy eyes
that flash at the sound of lies,
and Windy has wings to fly.....'
In my effort to make my life more like a broadway musical, I've begun singing every song that comes into my head. Windy happened to be a trigger-word, unfortunately for you lot. Does anyone besides me know/like the Association? |

I know the song too Dodger. And I like it too.
And did I say one inch this morning? Well, upon going outside, I discovered that I was quite wrong in my estimation, it was actually between 3-4 inches.
but it's still gorgeous, and the sky is now blue and sunny, and the snow is glittery, and it's quite amazing. |

Which song is this? It looks like one I'd like. Hmm, how come so many of my songs mention the weather? .....
I think I just wrote a poem about the wind this morning. I mean, I think it's a poem, but it may be something else. |

Well, actually the song is called 'Windy', it's by the Association, who is a wonderful band from the late 60s and 70s. They have lots of other great songs too, in fact they're my favorite rock band, which is not really saying a lot since I hardly ever listen to the stuff , but I do enjoy oldies a lot. I think I know more about oldies bands than my Mom and Dad do. |

"Windy" by the Association
Who's peekin' out from under a stairway
Calling a name that's lighter than air
Who's bending down to give me a rainbow
Everyone knows it's Windy
Who's tripping down the streets of the city
Smilin' at everybody she sees
Who's reachin' out to capture a moment
Everyone knows it's Windy
Chorus:
And Windy has stor-my eyes
That flash at the sound of lies
And Windy has wings to fly
Above the clouds (above the clouds) |

Did I ever thank you for that Willar? If not, thanks.
Last night, it snowed about a foot and a half.... and it's still at it... Gah! It's March! Though, to be fair, I have lived here since 1993, and should be used to snow in March... This light winter really threw me off, and made me think I still live in MD or something. |

I'm soooo jealous of all you people with snow! We were supposed to actually get some from the current storm system, but it has passed us by...again! We haven't had a decent blizzard all winter...but I digress. There is a little bit of snow on the ground, actually, but it's in the melting stage.
Today is gray and cold--my computer is trying to convince me that it's 35 degrees, but it feels so much colder! The wind probably has something to do with that. But then, this is Iowa--wind is always a factor. |

Today I was thinking about what Mole says in 'Wind in the Willows' (since I'm reading it I had it on the brain), how he sees the earth after all the foliage and finery is stripped away but snow hasn't covered it up yet, and at it's core it was still simple and good, and he was glad he still liked it when he saw it at it's core, because that's the way it looks right now, and I feel like Mole. |

Dodger, I love that line! Something like, The mole was glad he liked the land hard and bare, stripped of its finery... (what you said, etc). That's a line that has been brought to my mind quite often, especially this winter. |

IT'S SNOWING!!!!
It started at about 5:00 and has kept up ever since, little flakes blowing wildly around and making big gusty cotton-ball puffs under the streetlights and covering up the parking lots (which are all I can really see out my window) and my roommate is a bit downhearted but I am full of joy over SNOW!!!
Okay, I'm done. You can all come out from wherever you were hiding, I'm not going to do that again anytime soon. |

It snowed today! And I was in a hurry to get my kidlings to school, and wore only flipflops! |

Awesome!
It was snowing some this morning, but has since stopped. My parents are on vacation this week, or rather starting tomorrow, so we were planning on doing some hiking... The snow from yesterday has settled though, and now it's not quite so deep. I imagine there isn't quite as much down in the valley either. |

Lalaith, at least you remembered
some
form of shoe. Some members(or rather, one member) of this board claims to occasionally forget any shoes.
It is so bizarre to me that it can snow all day, and yet none of it has stuck at all. Weird. |

Well, some things are more important than shoes.
That happened here the other day. I mean, it snowed, but it didn't seem to get any deeper. It persisted though, and accomplished its...thing that it was trying to accomplish...ugh. Words fail me. ppththththth....
Edit: Objective! HA! |
